Volunteer Opportunities
These are our most popular volunteer projects for individuals and groups:
Welcome Desk/Guest Relations Volunteers
Energetic, customer service focused volunteers are need to staff the Front Desk at the House daily from 8:00 am – 8:00 p.m. These volunteers usually work one four hour shift per week. Duties include: answering phones and guests’ questions, taking reservations, greeting guests, data entry and giving House tours. They also pitch in wherever they can: cleaning up a spill in the kitchen, tidying the common areas of the House, or sorting donations — whatever it takes to keep the House running smoothly.
Kitchen Hosts / Hostesses
The kitchen is the heart of the House, and volunteers are needed to help keep this area clean and well organized and to ensure that donated non- perishable food items are labeled, stored and organized, that our supplies are kept plentiful, as well as other ongoing projects and chores around the House. They may do inventory, clean the refrigerators on a weekly basis, or organize the storage rooms.
Handy Helper Volunteers
Are you handy around the house? Do you enjoy completing minor repair projects and keeping busy? Our House needs active maintenance volunteers willing to tackle a variety of odd jobs and lend a hand where needed.
Director of Gratitude
Every day, people come to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Baltimore with donations of homemade treats, pop tabs, new toys and books, and items from our wish list. Ronald McDonald House Charities is all about people caring for people. That’s why a personal, handwritten thank-you note means so much. We need help with writing personal thank-you notes to tell donors and supporters how much their contribution is appreciated. This is a volunteer position that can happen here at the House or in the convenience of your own home.
Prepare a dinner or breakfast in our fully equipped kitchen/dining room.
Each morning before families take our Shuttle to the hospital and each evening when they return, volunteers have the opportunity to prepare a hot meal for them. Providing breakfast is a wonderful way to start off your day right and give children the energy they need to face a long day of hospital visits. Dinners are a chance to let them unwind and relax in a family atmosphere. Breakfast and Dinners are an amazing way to connect with families and make a difference in a child’s life.
“Love Served Daily” Policies and Procedures
Host an Activity Hour at the Ronald McDonald House.
Are you good at crafts or maybe leading a game night? Think of the kinds of things you, your family and friends like to do together in your spare time and come share with our guest families. Organizing a night of karaoke, or bingo or special craft nights can help keep little ones busy and often provide parents with a little relaxation. McBlitz Days
Spend one day with your friends or coworkers helping out at the Ronald McDonald House. There are always various projects and parts of the house that need attention. Ongoing needs include deep cleaning and organizing the kitchens, playroom and playground. Seasonally we need help with our Gardens, wrapping gifts, decorating for specific holidays and occasional help with special events.
Administrative Support
Interacting with our families at the front desk by providing coverage for a few hours, one day a week.
Wish List Blitz
Organizing a Wish List donation drive at your workplace or church, or among friends.
Share your Talents
Teach a class (yoga, knitting or drawing, for example) for our children and their families, or provide a service for our parents, such as manicures, massage therapy or facials.
